Publishing and Archiving
Publication Model & Frequency
Global Insights in Public and Preventive Health (GIPPH) operates on a Continuous Publication model. This ensures that critical public health research, epidemiological data, and preventive medicine findings are published online as soon as they complete the peer review and production process.
Key Features of Our Model:
- Rapid Communication: Articles are published individually upon readiness, supporting timely public health decision-making.
- Structured Archiving: While published continuously, articles are curated into two semi-annual issues (Issue 1: January–June; Issue 2: July–December) to ensure a stable bibliographic record for international databases and libraries.
- Persistent Discovery: Every article is assigned a permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) immediately upon publication.
Digital Archiving & Preservation Policy
GIPPH is committed to the long-term preservation and permanent accessibility of the global scholarly record. To prevent the loss of scientific data, we employ a multi-layered digital archiving strategy:
1. LOCKSS & CLOCKSS Systems GIPPH utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) systems to ensure a secure and permanent archive for the journal. These decentralized systems allow participating libraries to host "cache" versions of the journal, ensuring the content remains accessible even in the event of technical or operational changes.
2. OJS Infrastructure & Backups Managed via the Open Journal Systems (OJS), GIPPH benefits from:
- Secure server environments with daily automated off-site backups.
- Metadata distribution via the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) for global discoverability.
3. Permanent Identification (DOI) Through our partnership with Crossref, every published article receives a unique DOI. This ensures that the link to the research remains permanent and citable, providing a persistent gateway to the "Version of Record."
Self-Archiving Policy (Green Open Access)
GIPPH encourages authors to maximize the reach of their research. Authors are permitted to self-archive their work (including the Pre-print, Accepted Manuscript, or the Final Published PDF) in:
- Institutional Repositories (e.g., University digital archives).
- Subject-specific Repositories (e.g., PubMed Central, WHO IRIS).
- Personal or Professional Websites.
- Note: All self-archived versions must include a full citation and a link to the original DOI on the GIPPH website.
